About

My novel, Jobs for Girls with Artistic Flair, is forthcoming from Pamela Dorman Books (Penguin Random House) in summer 2022.

My essays and stories have appeared in SojournersThe Common, The Missouri Review, The Southampton Review, Image Journal, Consequence Magazine, Cordella, and elsewhere. My novella, A Fortune, was published in Big Fiction in 2014.

I earned my MFA in Writing and Literature (2012) at the Bennington Writing Seminars, where I was a Liam Rector Scholar. I was also a 2017 Sustainable Arts Fellow at Rivendell Writers Colony.

I also review books and occasionally make a little music or deliver an unconventional sermon for those (like me) who waffle between the skeptics and the mystics.

I am represented by Chad Luibl at Janklow & Nesbit.

I’ve supported my novel-writing habit by

  • working as a peace-and-justice organizer in Washington, DC;
  • starting a one-woman web design business;
  • writing hundreds of anonymous weekly articles for the Bennington College website, and
  • making art, fostering community and teaching at a nondenominational church.

I grew up on the south shore of fish-shape Paumanok (a.k.a. Long Island), and now I am married and raising a couple of wee beasties there.

Social media thingies: I’m on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Or just email me the old-fangled way.
